The Soul Doctor
You ever have a span of time where your dreams are just whacky? Like for days or weeks in a row?
You can’t seem to put your finger on their meaning?
Or they leave you with a sense of discomfort deep in your soul?
Oddly enough, I’ve had a solid month of dream messaging that has left me rather baffled.
This morning’s mind adventure placed me on a large boat that looked as if it had been either wrecked or damaged from a storm. I was with several other people and we were stranded in a large body of black water. I don’t recall seeing land in any direction.
An old roommate’s hyperactive dog was there and kept jumping ship, only to somehow get back on the boat to do it again. A childhood friend who passed away from cancer nearly five years ago was there, too. She looked the same as she did when we were about 10 years old and acted as if no time had passed at all.
I won’t go into detail about all the happenings inside the dream because I still haven’t figured out what my subconscious was trying to tell me.
Plus, it left my soul feeling… well, kind of sick, to be honest.
Every Monday morning, I sit down at my computer and write my blog, first thing. The topic I was supposed to be writing about at this very moment was “Money Goal.” At least that’s what was written on my nifty little spreadsheet.
But I have zero desire to write about money or goals because, in this moment, it feels a bit trivial.
So instead, I’d like to do share a poem I read this morning in an attempt to pull myself out of the dream funk.
It’s called “Soul Doctor” and was written by Chelan Harkin.
***
I wasn’t feeling well
so I went to the soul doctor.
She looked deeply into
my eyes
and said,
“Ahhhh, I see.
I see a brilliant soul in a world
that hasn’t yet learned
how to whirl.
Darling, I prescribe you
dancing,
singing,
poetry writing,
the uninhibited sharing
of your every gift.
Drink in this special tincture
of starlight.
Take in a concentrated dose
of beauty
during and between meals.
Put the warm compress
of sunlight
over every part of your body
and know of a certainty
there has only ever been
one You!
And you are an essential nutrient
to all things
and your emergence
is the exact
prescription
for yourself
and the ailing of this world.
Come forward with your light
and heal both.”

I know I’m not alone in the land of dreamers who sometimes get shaken by the weird messages we receive as we sleep. It’s awesome when the message is clear, but can be a little disconcerting when it isn’t.
So if your soul is feeling sick because you’re struggling to interpret the messages you’re receiving, or for any other reason in the world, then I encourage you to bookmark this poem.
Because its message reads loud and clear.
