Money Ritual

Last week I told you about the 1-2-3 Money Plan, a simple three-part strategy to make your money work for you. Today, I’m coming to you with a money ritual that may help you implement your plan.

If you know me personally, then you’re already aware that I am ALL ABOUT THE WOO!

I have found that having a growth mindset plays a major role in my successes, and rituals are the tool I use to inform, direct and perpetuate that mindset.

If this isn’t your thing, no worries. You can click on outta here, or read on if I’ve peaked your interest and you want to try something new.

For those of you inclined to reach beyond logic for something more, you’re in the right place.

Gratitude is key—it is what will lead you to abundance.

The ritual prep is actually part of the ritual, so try to clear your mind of any worry or doubt you may be feeling. Think of 5 things you are grateful for. Say them out loud. Write them down if you need to. Feel that gratitude from your core by focusing on why these things make your life better. Smile.

And let’s begin.

Money Ritual Prep

Complete these 4 steps before you do your ritual for the first time.

1. Get a notebook or journal dedicated solely to your money ritual. Write down the reasons (at least 5) why you are taking control of your finances.

Write it as if you already have what you want/ need. “I travel as often as I like,” or “I feel ease when buying my new car.” You get the picture. Say them out loud.

2. You want this to be a pleasurable experience, so write down a list of things that make you happy that can be incorporated into your ritual setting.

I use candles, essential oils, music, and most of the time I pull a Goddess or Tarot card to help me focus.

3. Pick one day per week that you can set aside at least 30 minutes that you can focus on your money ritual. Consistency is key. Add this recurring meeting with yourself to your calendar, and write in your journal: “I commit to doing my money ritual every week on <insert day of the week and time>.” Good. Now say that out loud. Look in the mirror while you say it if you need to.

I shoot for an hour depending on the week’s client load, and I like Thursday because it’s the sacred day of the planet Jupiter, considered to be the luckiest and most bountiful of the planets.

4. If you think you need an accountability buddy, ask a friend to check in with you weekly to make sure you’ve done your ritual.

Over time, you may find that you no longer need someone to hold you accountable because you’re going to see how your ritual (through focus, intention and action) has the power to reframe everything.

Okay, so now that you’ve prepped yourself, what do you actually do during your money ritual? Oh, I’m so glad you asked!

Once you’ve set your space (refer to step 2 above), start by singing or dancing – these two activities generate great Chi, or energy, to get things flowing in the right direction.

If you don’t dance and you don’t sing, choose another option that makes you feel good.

Examples include lighting a candle, drinking some hot tea, wearing a favorite piece of clothing, placing yourself outside in nature, burning sage, doing a face mask. You do you, boo. Just pick something you find pleasurable.

Once you feel that your energy is flowing, pick 1 - 3 financial things that could use your focus and tend to them.

  • Journal about your money story and your current beliefs around money and then create your new money story… how you WANT it to be

  • Use your online banking features to categorize your spending so you see have a clearer picture of where your money is going. (Or use another app like Mint to do this.)

  • Remove your credit card from your wallet and put it away so you aren’t using it on the daily. (Or remove it from your web browser’s memory or other apps you make purchases on.)

  • Review your subscriptions and cancel the ones you don’t use or the ones that aren’t necessary.

  • Create your 1-2-3 Money Plan if you haven’t already

  • Call your internet, cable or phone companies to negotiate lower rates.

  • Set up the retirement plan you’ve been thinking about but keep putting off.

  • Transfer $XX into your savings account.

There are so many ways to make this time meaningful and actionable – do what feels right to you!

When your ritual time is nearing its end, make a promise to yourself that you’re going to return—same time, same place—next week.

Say it out loud.

Actually, SING IT OUT LOUD.

Yeah, it’s WOO.

And guess what…

WOO WORKS.

I wish you blessings of prosperity and abundance on your path. Please let me know how it goes!
